Are you a parent who wants to share the Continental European world with your children during school breaks? Do you homeschool and wish to add the ultimate in active learning to your studies of the “Story of the World”? It will be so fun, when the younger generation won’t even realize that they are actually learning while on a trip!

Leadership Lessons from History: A City Walk Through Power & Influence

A Unique Leadership Workshop Exploring Austria’s Past

Leadership styles shape history — and history, in turn, offers valuable lessons for today’s leaders. This immersive city walking workshop takes participants through Vienna’s historic streets, using two contrasting leadership models — the Enlightened Absolutism of the Habsburgs and the authoritarian rule of the Third Reich — as case studies to explore power, responsibility, and decision-making.

Key Themes & Learning Outcomes

Strategic Leadership & Vision

• How did the Habsburg monarchs balance power, reform, and long-term stability through Enlightened Absolutism?
• What leadership strategies ensured the longevity of their empire?

Leadership Ethics & Responsibility

• How can power be used for progress—or oppression?
• Examining the manipulation, propaganda, and coercion under the Third Reich—a stark reminder of leadership without ethical constraints.

Adaptability & Change Management

• What lessons can modern leaders learn from reform-driven figures like Empress Maria Theresa and Emperor Joseph II?
• How do leaders handle resistance to change and societal transformation?

The Role of Followers & Collective Responsibility

• How do leaders shape societies, and how do societies shape leaders?
• The impact of obedience, conformity, and moral courage in leadership dynamics.
